Dipl.-Ing. Dr. Herbert Mang is the world famous expert in the field of structural engineering and computational mechanics, professor from Vienna University of Technology and Tongji University. He was the former president of the Austrian Academy of Sciences. He is also foreign academician of the U.S., German and China, etc., Chief Scientist of "Austria-China Research Center on Tunnel and Underground Engineering". In 2019, he won the International Science and Technology Cooperation Award of the People's Republic of China.

In 1981, he came to China as a special expert of the United Nations to work and disseminate advanced structural analysis methods. Over the past 40 years, he has been committed to promoting bilateral and multilateral scientific and technological cooperation, jointly participating in major scientific research projects, serving the construction of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge and other major projects, and recommending and training high-level talents of Chinese science and technology.
